Hiya May!

Early spring garden

I took this photo in the middle of May, 2026. I'm thrilled by how much ground cover has already appeared! It seems my efforts at spreading clover everywhere are paying off.

I waited as long as I could to start cleaning the garden. I didn't trim anything back last fall, so there was lots of dead growth to chop off (including an 8' tall mammoth sunflower!). Towards the middle of the plot, Monarda didyma 'Panorama Red Bee Balm' has been happily creeping since I first planted it in 2024.

It seems it's not only bees who enjoy the monarda's company. Tasteless stonecrop has made it's way into the bee balm and is now entirely encompassed by it! I planted two varieties of sedum in my first year gardening (two years ago) and have been pleasantly surprised by how hardy it is. Then again, everything I procure from Solid Ground Gardens is hardy and prolific!
